Alliotts are proud sponsors of the Guildford Art Society’s first ever Award for Contemporary Art Work. At the Society’s Private View Evening on 11 November in the Guildford House Gallery, Alliotts partner and art lover Steve Meredith awarded the prize to Christine Taherian for her painting ‘Rainy Day’
The Guildford Art Society’s annual Autumn exhibition opened on the 12th November at the Guildford House Gallery to showcase the best artwork produced by members this year. It is clear to see the talent and variety of styles amongst the members in this Art Society, which was recently voted runner up in the Patching’s Art Society of the Year 2016, beating over 80 other art societies from throughout the UK.
Alliotts have also recently become patrons of the Guildford Art Society and are delighted to help support the work of the organisation.
The Autumn exhibition runs until 3rd December in the Guildford House Gallery on the High Street in Guildford and all pieces of artwork are available to view and to purchase.
About prize winner Christine Taherian
As well as a Guildford Art Society member Christine is also a member of the Society of Women Artists (SWA) and her work has been exhibited and sold in galleries throughout the UK, such as Fine Art UK, Picturecraft Gallery, the Lightbox, Hillier Gallery and Mall Galleries, via the Society of Women Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) and internationally. Christine has won numerous awards and her works have been widely published we area now proud to have our Alliotts Award for Contemporary Art Work added to her list of accolades.
She has evolved her own impressionistic style, employing Oils, Acrylics and Mixed Media. She uses colours, layered textures and abstract patterns in forming, mainly, urban landscapes and highlighting cultural issues.
It was certainly the colour in “Rainy Day” that first caught the eye of the Alliotts selectors with Steve commenting “the bright colours and vibrancy of the painting immediately caught our attention”.
